A person who has both a cataract and astigmatism may not achieve good distance vision without glasses after surgery to remove the cataract unless the astigmatism is also corrected. One option Dr. Brown and Dr. Hawkins may choose to treat astigmatism is Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI). However if you are planning to have surgery to remove a cataract, you now have an additional option… an implantable lens makes it possible to treat the cataract and correct the corneal astigmatism at the same time. This implant is used to make you less dependent on distance glasses but will do nothing to help you see up close without glasses.
